Language translations are sometimes taken a little too far. While Indians take religion as auspicious, and every possible occasion is denoted "Shubh", its not necessarily true for everyone.

Christmas, I would think, is more of a merriment occasion than one of auspiciousness, though logic may dictate that. While Indians are happy to say Merry Christmas and even Happy Christmas to each other, some multinationals with translation tools and an underworked PR department may go the extra mile to make that unrequired change. Wishing 'Auspicious Christmas' to one and all, whether they want it or not.

Now what would have made a difference would have been a simple "Happy Diwali" on the country website/!
